Um, ok ... it seems to be working now. The other post seems to have reappeared as well.

More moaning -- yesterday, my day off, was cloudy, windy and cold. I'd booked a dinghy hire but cancelled it -- too cold, too windy. Today dawned nice and hot and sunny again, though even windier. But this afternoon a haar descended. A haar is a thick sea mist, a pale, moist blanket that envelops Edinburgh after a few days of sun. It can last several days -- a taxi driver told me he remembered one in the Sixties that stayed for six weeks. But usually it's just a day or so.

Perversely, I quite like the haar. I like the way it renders everything mysterious. It's especially effective in the Old Town, it puts a gleam on the cobbles and makes the dank closes look romantic.

I mowed the lawns today, front and back. The front can hardly be called a lawn -- it's more dandelion and daisy than grass.

I picked up my reading glasses today. I should have gone with the bifocals. The reading glasses are (surprise) brilliant for reading, but to cross the room I really have to put my distance glasses back on. I'll need a bigger handbag now.

Bertie's nature notes: Rabbits can climb trees!!! No, really, they do, Bertie's seen it with his own eyes. Also: Cats are scary. There were several in the vet's waiting room and they spat and swore when Bertie had a sniff. He retreated to the far corner on his belly.
